bagaimana cara cara membedakan defining clouse dan non-defining clouse?

 

Definition: A defining relative clause (also called identifying relative clauses or restrictive relative clauses) gives essential information about the noun or noun phrase it modifies, the purpose of a defining relative clause is to clearly define who or what we are talking about. Without this information, it would be difficult to know who or what is meant.

For example: The hotel that we stayed in wasn't bad. ("that we stayed in" tells the listener which hotel we are talking about; it defines the hotel)

Punctuation Commas are not used in defining relative clauses.

Relative pronouns The following relative pronouns are used in defining relative clauses:

Notes:

"Who", "whom" and "which" can be replaced by "that". This is very common in spoken English.

The "relative pronoun" can be omitted (ø) when it is the object of the clause.

For example: The mouse that the elephant loved was very beautiful.

  • The mouse /ø the elephant loved was very beautiful.

"Whose" is used for things as well as for people.

For example:

  • The man whose car was stolen.
  • A tree whose leaves have fallen.

"Whom" is very formal and is only used in written English. You can use "who/that, or omit" the pronoun completely.

For example:

  • The doctor whom/who/that/ø I was hoping to see wasn't on duty.

"That" normally follows words like "something, anything, everything, nothing, all, and superlatives".

For example:

  • There's something that you should know.
  • It was the best film that I've ever seen.

Examples:

  • The woman who lives in apartment No. 34 has been arrested.
  • An elephant is an animal that lives in hot countries.
  • Do you know the girl who is talking to Tom?
  • The house /ø is being renovated.
  • Has anyone seen the book I was reading?
  • The document that I need has "important" written at the top.
  • Let's go to a country where the sun always shines.
  • A seaman is someone who works on a ship.
  • The boy /who/whom/ø we met yesterday is very nice.

Contoh analitycal exposition tentang orasi menjadi ketua OSIS itu bagaimana? Tolong buatkan ya, kalau bisa hari ini. Trims.

Hayate, dalam membuat teks analitycal exposition ada 3 tahapan  yaitu:

  1. Thesis, berisi tentang suatu pernyataan tentang permasalahan tertentu. Biasanya diawali dengan kalimat I personally think, In my opinion, I believe, dll.
  2. Arguments, berisi tentang alasan-alasan untuk medukung Thesis yang dikemukakan. Diawali dengan kata, atau frase First, Second, Furthermore, In addition, The last, dll.
  3. Reiteration, berisi tentang simpulan dari Thesis, dan Arguments yang dikemukakan. Kata-kata yang digunakan biasanya In my conclusion, Based on the arguments above, dll

 Hayate bisa mencoba dulu membuat teks tentang orasi tersebut dengan tahapan-tahapan diatas. Paragraph pertama silakan sebutkan pandangan Hayate tentang OSIS dan ketua OSIS. Paragraph kedua tuliskan argumen-argumen atau alasan dan tugas-tugas ketua OSIS.Dan yang ketiga sebutkan kesimpulan berdasarkan argumen-argumen di paragraph kedua. Silakan mencoba dulu nanti kalau sudah jadi bisa dikirim dan secepatnya bisa saya koreksi dan kalau ada yang kurang tepat structurnya akan saya perbaiki.

Indri, thew purpose of hortatory and analytical exposition is to persuade the readers by presenting the supporting arguments. In many social activities, hortatory is applied for writing recommended thought, sales letter, advertising, speech campaign, and news advertorial.

Study the text organization of analytical exposition below.
Ada 3 tahapan dalam teks analytical, yaitu:

  1. Thesis, berisi tentang suatu pernyataan tentang permasalahan tertentu. Biasanya diawali dengan kalimat I personally think, In my opinion, I believe, dll.
  2. Arguments, berisi tentang alasan-alasan untuk medukung Thesis yang dikemukakan. Diawali dengan kata, atau f rase First, Second, Furthermore, In addition, The last, dll.
  3. Reiteration, berisi tentang simpulan dari Thesis, dan Arguments yang dikemukakan. Kata-kata yang digunakan biasanya In my conclusion, Based on the arguments above, dll

Perbedaan Analytical Exposition dan Hortatory Exposition terletak di paragraf terakhir. Dalam penulisan Hortatory juga ada 3 bagian, yaitu:

  1. Thesis, berisi tentang suatu pernyataan tentang permasalahan tertentu. Biasanya diawali dengan kalimat I personally think, In my opinion, I believe, dll.
  2. Arguments, berisi tentang alasan-alasan untuk medukung Thesis yang dikemukakan. Diawali dengan kata, atau f rase First, Second, Furthermore, In addition, The last, dll.
  3. Recommendation, berisi tentang saran dari penulis atas Thesis dan Arguments yang dikemukakan. Biasanya ada kata-kata should, should not, ought to, ought not to, dll.

Example of analytical exposition text:

 House Husband's Heart Risk

Most people assume that life in the rat race is bad for your health. But reversing the traditional gender roles, being a house husband is a stressful business, according to the latest research by American scientist. By giving up their jobs in order to become house husbands, men increase their risk of heart attack or coronary disease by as much as 82%, according to research based on 10 year study of 2,500 people in Boston, USA.
Accoding to Dr. Elaine Eaker, the key to the problem is that some men became stressed about performing a role not traditionally assigm to them by society. Men who stays at home tend not to have the same levels of support from friends and family as women do the same.
Jack O’Sullivan, of the Father’s Direct, was quoted as saying: “Society expects the main career should be a woman and society is structured around that. Day care is called mother and toddler groups and some men feel awkward about belonging to those groups.
Professor Gary Cooper, a psychologist at the University of Manchester, said many men tend to underestimate the task of caring for a family. He said “Most men think being a house husband involves putting on a bit of washing, taking the kids to school and then putting their feet up with a cup of coffee.
They are crazy. Most men are not used to performing a variety of activities simultanously – the kind of multi-tasking which is second nature to most women.
It is estimated that men have taken over the main homemaker’s role in one in seven homes, as increasing numbers of women become the main breadwinner. The study also found that women in high-powered jobs were more likely to develop heart disease than those in more junior positions.

 Students' cheating

Students’ cheating is one of the biggest problems faced by teachers nowadays.
Despite the fact that teachers advise their students not to do dishonest acts during tests, some students still do cheating. There are many kinds of cheating that students do during the test or examination, such as looking other students’ work, put some notes under their clothes, write notes or formulas on their desks make hand signals or go to rest rooms to get the answers from their friends.
In my view, students who do cheating are committing a crime. It is a sort of taking something illegally. This crime causes negative results to the students. Students who always cheat deteriorate their mental capacity. Cheating acts also create dependence. They weaken their self confidence. Instead of preparing for the coming test, they are busy to organize notes on a piece of paper. If this awful habit continues, the students will lose their opportunity to develop their intellectual and mind.
Therefore, school should consider cheating as a very serious problem. School board and administration should go hand to overcome this matter. Honesty must be put in school’s vision. Harsh punishment must be applied to students who commit this crime.

Sandy   : Thank you Ephine. You're so kind to me.

 

 Expressing compliment:

Nabila : Hi, Sari! How are things?

Sari :  Fine, and you?

 Nabila: I'm feeling great today. How was your weekend at the beach?

Sari : Terrific! We had a lovely time there. You should go there. 

Nabila : Really? Hey, what a beautiful blouse are wearin, it matches you skirt.

 Sari : Thanks. My mother gave it t me on my birthday.

Nabila : Wow! That's wonderful. Oh, Sar, I almost forget. Can I ask you soething?

Sari : oh, sure. What's up?

NAbila : HAve you finished typing the annual report we made last week?

Sari : Yes, mean this?
