Ciri Kebahasaan: simple action verbs; abstract nouns, misalnya word chopping, earthquakes; noun phrase, conjunctions of time dan cause; passive voice; present tense; abstract nouns, misalnya the temperature; misalnya the large cloud; kalimat pasif bahasa teksni; complex sentences; adverbial phrases.

Contoh Teks Explanation:

“How a Spider's Web forms”

A Spider web looks delicate but it is very strong. It can hold 4000 times a spider’s weight. But how does it form.
First the spider spins a thread of silk. The thread gets blown over to a branch by the wind. Then she makes another two threads and makes a Y shape. Next she makes more threads and they look like spokes off a wheel. Then the spider goes in a spiral, out and back in, sits in the middle and waits for food.
This is how a web is formed.

Tujuan komunikatif nya: memberi petunjuk cara melakukan sesuatu melalui serangkaian tindakan atau langkah.  Struktur Teks (Generic Structure): Goal/Aim – Materials/Tools – Steps/Methods

Ciri Kebahasaan teks Procedure:

-         pola kalimat imperative: misalnya, Cut, Pour,  Don’t mix, dsb.

-         action verbs: misalnya turn, put, don’t, mix, dsb.

-         connectives untuk mengurutkan kegiatan, misalnya then, while, dsb.

-         adverbials untuk menyatakan rinci waktu, tempat, cara yang akurat, misalnya for five minutes, two centimetres from the top, dsb.

How to make Lemonade

Ingredients:

For each glass use:

 - 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.

- 2 tablespoons of sugar.

- 1 glass of water.

Methods:

1. Slice a lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a cup.

2. Take out the seeds.

3. Pour two tablespoons of juice into glass.

4. Add sugar.

5. Add water and stir well.

6. Taste the lemonade. You may want to add more sugar or more lemon to make it taste just right.

7. Put it in ice cubes. A drop of red food coloring will make pink lemonade.

Description berisi: deskripsi rinci tentang bagian - bagiannya, misalnya tentang physical appearance (ciri - ciri fisik), sifat - sifatnya (characteristics)dll.

Tenses yang digunakan : Present tense.

Report Tujuan Komunikatif: Menyampaikan informasi tentang sesuatu, apa adanya, sebagai hasil pengamatan sistematis atau analisis. Yang dideskripsikan dapat meliputi gajala alam, lingkungan, benda buatan manusia, atau gejala- gejala sosial. Deskripsi sebuah teks report dapat berupa simpulan umum misalnya tentang rumah sederhana dengan mendekripsikan ciri-ciri subyek tersebut sehingga layak dikategorikan rumah sederhana, dsb.

Ciri Kebahasaan: · general nouns, seperti ‘Reptiles in Comodo Insland’. · relating verbs untuk menjelaskan ciri, misalnya reptiles are scaly animals (ciri ini berlaku untuk semua reptilia). · action verbs dalam mejelaskan perilaku, misalnya lizards cannot fly. · present tense untuk menyatakan suatu yang umum, misalnya Komodo dragons usually weight more than 160 kg. · istilah teknis, misalnya water contains oxygen and hydrogen. · paragraf dengan topik sentence untuk menyusun sejumlah informasi.

Plants

Plants are living beings. They need food, water and air for survival.

Plants derive their food from the earth and the air. If you look at their roots, you will find that ends of these roots are like fine fibers. We call them root-hairs. They absorb water and minerals, then transport them upwards to the leaves through the trunk and the branches. It is the leaves which prepare the food.

The green material, chlorophyll, prepares the food like a machine. It converts the carbon dioxide taken from the air and water from the ground into sugar with the help of sunlight. This chemical reaction is called photosynthes. In fact, the chlorophyll takes energy from the sunlight and uses it to synthesize the hydrogen from water and carbon from carbon dioxide for making sugar. This reaction also gives out oxygen and water which are excreted by the leaves.

The Sailor Man


Once upon a time, two children came to the house of a sailor man, who lived beside the salt sea; and they found the sailor man sitting in his doorway knotting ropes.

"How do you do?" asked the sailor man.

"We are very well, thank you," said the children, who had learned manners, "and we hope you are the same. We heard that you had a boat, and we thought that perhaps you would take us out in her, and teach us how to sail, for that is what we most wish to know."

"All in good time," said the sailor man. "I am busy now, but by-and-by, when my work is done, I may perhaps take one of you if you are ready to learn. Meantime here are some ropes that need knotting; you might be doing that, since it has to be done." And he showed them how the knots should be tied, and went away and left them.

When he was gone the first child ran to the window and looked out.

"There is the sea," he said. "The waves come up on the beach, almost to the door of the house. They run up all white, like prancing horses, and then they go dragging back. Come and look!"

"I cannot," said the second child. "I am tying a knot."

"Oh!" cried the first child, "I see the boat. She is dancing like a lady at a ball; I never saw such a beauty. Come and look!"

"I cannot," said the second child. "I am tying a knot."

"I shall have a delightful sail in that boat," said the first child. "I expect that the sailor man will take me, because I am the eldest and I know more about it. There was no need of my watching when he showed you the knots, because I knew how already."

Just then the sailor man came in.

"Well," he said, "my work is over. What have you been doing in the meantime?"

"I have been looking at the boat," said the first child. "What a beauty she is! I shall have the best time in her that ever I had in my life."

"I have been tying knots," said the second child.

"Come, then," said the sailor man, and he held out his hand to the second child. "I will take you out in the boat, and teach you to sail her."

"But I am the eldest," cried the first child, "and I know a great deal more than she does."

"That may be," said the sailor man; "but a person must learn to tie a knot before he can learn to sail a boat."

"But I have learned to tie a knot," cried the child. "I know all about it!"

"How can I tell that?" asked the sailor man.

The Boy who cried “Wolf”

There was once a shepherd-boy who kept his flock at a little distance from the village. Once he thought he would play a trick on the villagers and have some fun at their expense. So he ran toward the village crying out, with all his might,

"Wolf! Wolf! Come and help! The wolves are at my lambs!"

The kind villagers left their work and ran to the field to help him. But when they got there the boy laughed at them for their pains; there was no wolf there.

Still another day the boy tried the same trick, and the villagers came running to help and got laughed at again. Then one day a wolf did break into the fold and began killing the lambs. In great fright, the boy ran for help. "Wolf! Wolf!" he screamed. "There is a wolf in the flock! Help!"

The villagers heard him, but they thought it was another mean trick; no one paid the least attention, or went near him. And the shepherd-boy lost all his sheep.

Moral value:

That is the kind of thing that happens to people who lie: even when they tell the truth no one believes them.

Goannas

General Classification:

Goannas are large Australian lizards which belong to the reptile family.

Description:

Goannas are yellowish-brown in colour and grow to about a metre in length.

They live in burrows and eat insects, lizards, mice, eggs, and flesh of dead animals.

To breed, the female goanna lays about six eggs in a termite mound.

SHOULD CHILDREN WEAR HATS AT SCHOOL?<br>
(Statement of position):

I believe that you should always wear a hat at school when you are playing outside , to stop you from getting sunburn.

(Argument 1):

Firstly, if you don’t wear a hat, you will get sunburn ant the sunburn is painful.

(Argument 2):

Secondly, sunburn could lead to skin cancer. Sunburn can lead to health problems later in life. Many older people suffer from skin cancer which can kill them.

(Reinforcement of position statement):

In my opinion all school students should wear hats.

Metode penyampaianya bisa dengan cara teks Report yang utuh tadi dipisah sesuai dengan Generic Structurenya, lalu dibagikan acak kepada kelompok siswa. Kemudian siswa disuruh mendiskusikan bagian teks tersebut. Teks yang dibagikan ke siswa sudah diberi nomor (tanda). Selanjutnya siswa diminta menyusun urutan teks tersebut menjadi satu teks yang padu (menurut persepsi siswa). Guru membahas hasil urutan teks - teks tersebut termasuk unsur - unsur pembentuk teks tersebut.

Lalu siswa diberikan teks sejenis, siswa diminta mengenali teks tadi secara utuh kemudian membuat teks sejenis. Silakan mencoba!
