Berikut contoh narrative:

Once there was a farmer from Laos. Every morning and every evening, he ploughed his field with his buffalo.
One day, a tiger saw the farmer and his buffalo working in the field. The tiger was very surprised to see a big animal listening to a small animal. The tiger wanted to know more about the big animal and the small animal.
After the man went home, the tiger spoke to the buffalo; “you are so big and strong. Why do you do everything the man tells you?” The buffalo answered; “oh, the man is very intelligent”.
The tiger asked; “can you tell me how intelligent he is?”. “No, I can’t tell you”, said the buffalo; “but you can ask him”
So the next day the tiger asked to the man; “Can I see your intelligence?”. But the man answered; “it at home”. “Can you go and get it?” asked the tiger. “Yes” said the man; “but I am afraid you will kill my buffalo when I am gone. Can I tie you to a tree?”
After the man tied the tiger to the tree, he didn’t go home to get his intelligence. He took his plough and hit the tiger. Then he said; “Now you know about my intelligence even you haven’t seen it.

Snow White didn’t want her uncle and aunt to do this. So she decided to run away. The next morning she run away from home when her aunt and uncle were having breakfast, she run away into the wood.
In the wood she felt very tired and hungry. Then she saw this cottage. She knocked but no one answered so she went inside and felt asleep
Meanwhile seven dwarfs were coming home from work. They went inside. There, they found Snow White woke up. She saw the dwarfs. The dwarfs said; “What is your name?”. Snow White said; “My name is Snow White”. One of the dwarfs said; “If you wish, you may live here with us”. Snow White told the whole story about her. Then Snow white ad the seven dwarfs lived happily ever after.

Contoh:

I like sleeping.

Kata sleeping disini walaupun sebenarnya dari kata kerja, namun fungsi dalam kalimat itu sebagai kata benda karena posiinya sebagai obyek. I (subyek) like (Predikat) sleeping (obyek).

Adjective Clause adalah kalimat yang berfungsi untuk menjelaskan kata benda. Contoh:

1. The man is a manager. He has a new car.

    The man who has a new car is a manager.

Kalimat yang dicetak tebal untuk menjelaskan the man. Padahal the man itu subyek kalimat yang berupa kata benda. Kata yang menerangkan kata benda adalah adjective (kt sifat). akan tetapi adjective diatas berupa kalimat, maka disebut adjective clause.

Macquarie University is one of the largest universities in Australia. This year, in 2004, it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

 The university is located at the North Ryde Greenbelt, Sydney, where the New South Wales government sets aside 135 hectares for the institution. In 1964, Macquarie area was a rural retreat on the city fringe, but today the campus and its surroundings have evolved beyond recognition. The North Ryde District has grown into a district of intensive occupation anchored by a vibrant and growing university.

 Blessed with a fortunate location and room to breathe, Macquarie can be proud of that careful planning that retains and enrich the university’s most attractive natural features. A pleasing balance between buildings and plating is evident across the campus. This emphasis on the importance of landscape has created images of Macquarie as a place that members of the university are most likely to pleasurably recollect.

 One of the highlights of the landscape is the Mars Creek zone. It comprises landscaped creek sides and valley floor, a grass amphitheatre, and artificial lake… surrounded by rocks and pebbles, native plants and eucalypts.

 Today, a railway station is under construction. In three years1 time, Macquarie will be the only university in Australia with a railway station on site. Macquarie is poised to be the most readily accessible in Sydney region by rail and motorway, yet retaining its beautiful site.

Menyampaikan informasi tentang sesuatu, apa adanya, sebagai hasil pengamatan sistematis atau analisis. Yang dideskripsikan dapat meliputi gajala alam, lingkungan, benda buatan manusia, atau gejala-gejala sosial. Deskripsi sebuah teks report dapat berupa simpulan umum, misalnya, ikan paus termasuk binatang mamalia karena ikan tersebut melahirkan anaknya. Untuk membuat laporan semacam ini, siswa perlu mengamati dan membandingkan ikan paus dengan binatang lainnya yang memiliki ciri-ciri yang sama.

Siswa dapat mencoba membuat teks laporan tentang, misalnya, rumah sangat sederhana, warung tegal, sekolah, rumah sakit dsb. dengan mendekripsikan ciri-ciri subyek tersebut sehingga disebut rumah sederhana, dsb.

·         action verbs dalam mejelaskan perilaku, misalnya lizards cannot fly, dsb.

·         present tense untuk menyatakan suatu yang umum, misalnya Komodo dragons usually weight more than 160 kg, dsb.

·         istilah teknis, misalnya water contains oxygen and hydrogen, dsb.

THE PELICAN REPORT

 

Pernyataan tentang subjek laporan

 

The white pelican is one of the most successful fish-eating birds.

 

Deskripsi

The success is largely due to its command hunting behaviour. A group, perhaps two dozen birds, will gather in a curved arc some distance offshore. The birds then begin to move forward towards the shore, beating the water furiously with their wings, driving the fish before them.

 When the water is shallow enough for the birds to reach the fish, the formation breaks up as each bird dips its bill into the water to scoop up its meal. As the bird lifts its head, the water drains from its bill leaving the fish which are then swallowed.

 Pelicans are among the oldest group of birds, Fossils of this genus have been found dating back 40 million years.

Analytical Exposition

 The function of this text is to persuade the readers or listeners that something is in the case.

 The generic structure is thesis/statement of position, arguments, reiteration or summing up/ reinforcement of position statement

 This text has language features such as: focus on generic human and non human participants, reasoning expressed as verbs and nouns, use of material, relation and mental process.

 
SHOULD CHILDREN WEAR HATS AT SCHOOL?

(Statement of position):

I believe that you should always wear a hat at school when you are playing outside , to stop you from getting sunburn.

(Argument 1):

 Firstly, if you don’t wear a hat, you will get sunburn ant the sunburn is painful.

(Argument 2):

Secondly, sunburn could lead to skin cancer. Sunburn can lead to health problems later in life. Many older people suffer from skin cancer which can kill them.

(Reinforcement of position statement):

In my opinion all school students should wear hats.

 
SHOULD MUSIC BE COMPULSORY IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL?

 (Statement of position):

 I believe that music should be compulsory in Junior High School. Firstly, everyone likes music of some kind. Music is enjoyable.

 Secondly, the music industry is very popular in our society and the music industry is a very big one. It is important to know something about it.

(Argument 2)

Thirdly, learning to play music and to play an instrument helps you with other subjects. Studies have shown this. Playing an instrument is interesting and enjoyable. Also, songs tell stories, help us with English and make us happy.

 In conclusion, for the above reasons, I believe that music should be compulsory inh Junior High School.

REPORT 

Fax Machine

Fax, the short term for facsimile is a telecommunications technology used to transfer copies (facsimiles) of documents, especially using affordable devices operating over the telephone network. The word telefax, short for telefacsimile, for "make a copy at a distance", is also used as a synonym. The device is also known as a telecopier in certain industries. When sending documents to people at large distances, faxes have a distinct advantage over postal mail in that the delivery is nearly instantenous, yet its disadvantages in quality and its proprietary format have relegated it to a position beneath email as the prevailing form of electronic document tranferral.

DESCRIPTIVE

The Ambarawa Train Museum houses 21 antique locomotives plus two more, which are stored in the depot. These locomotives are no longer produced; even the factories that made them no longer exist. The main building of this museum is the defunct Ambarawa railway station which was built in 1873. the station covers 127,500 m2.

The oldest in this museum is a locomotive made by Hartman Chemnitz. This locomotive, with a length of 8.58 m and a width of 2.45 m, began its operation in 1891. Using wood as fuel, the steam locomotive could run 50 km/h – its maximum speed.

A special part of a visit to this museum is a trip by train from the Ambarawa Train Museum to the defunct Bedono train station. This package tour is called Railway Mountain Tour. Why is the trip so special? Because the participants will board an antique train and the train will travel on a 4.9 kilometer-cog railway, which is the only one in the world.
