Do you know how blueberries grow? They grow on bushes. Each blueberry is small and round. Many blueberries can grow on one bush. At first, the blueberries are green. The green berries are not ready to eat yet. They need a lot of sun and rain to help them become fat and sweet. When the berries turn blue, they are ripe and ready to be picked.
Some farmers grow blueberries in big fields. The people who live nearby can earn money by helping to pick the blueberries. Each one takes a pail out to the field and fills it with blueberries. They work fast so that they can fill many pails. They want to earn as much money as they can. When they are done picking, their fingers are blue from the juice of the berries!
After the blueberries are picked, they are put into boxes and sent to stores. People buy the blueberries and take them home to eat. Some people like to wash the berries and eat them one by one. Other people like to cook with blueberries. They make blueberry muffins and pancakes.

ABORTION: PRO AND CONTRA
There has been a great deal of discussion on the problem of abortion in this country and abroad. The discussion includes: is abortion legal or illegal?, is abortion morally justified or not?
On the one hand, abortion is one of the method of birth control. When a country faces the problems of population explosion, the government should find methods to solve it. But since no methods of contraception is one hundred percent effective and successful, abortion becomes the only way out when prevention fails.
On the other hand, abortion may cause many negative effects for women’s health. Women risk their health and lives in bearing the weight of the operation and its consequences. The most common complications are inflammation, interruption of menstrual patterns, infertility, endometriosis, myoma of the uterus and many other kind of ovary illnesses. Besides, the humanists say that abortion is a crime and against the law.
So far, Abortion becomes a dilemma for countries with a large number of citizens. On the one hand, it can control the birthrate but on the other hand, it brings terrible consequences, especially for the women’s health.

Eventually, as this gas builds up the atmosphere, leading to what scientists call the enhanced greenhouse effect.

I’m surprised that Soekarno – Hatta airport was awarded the “No. 4 clean toilet” position, while we all know that this airport has one of the dirtiest and smelliest toilet facilities.
At Soekarno – Hatta, an airport which stays busy 24 hours a day, toilet attendees are gone by 10 p.m. and the toilets are an utter disgrace.
I propose that toilet operators should teach and train employees how to do the job properly as these facilities should be cleaned and disinfected at regular intervals.
People should also be educated not to squat on toilet pots. Signs should be put up on places which they can read to solve this problem. The toilet users should pay some money as long as the toilets are exceptionally clean and non-smelly.

FROM TEA TREE TO A CUP OF TEA
For many years, Indonesia has produced thousands of kilograms of tea every year for its people and for international trade. Have you ever thought about how the tea gets from the tree to your cup? You should know about it.
First, tea trees are grown in tea plantations in hilly and cool areas. THE ADVANTAGES and THE DISADVANTAGES of NUCLEAR ENERGY
Nuclear energy is commonly offered as an alternative to overcome the crisis of energy. The debate whether the use of nuclear energy is an appropriate choice has not come to an end. Some people agree with the utilization of it because its benefits. Some others, however, disagree because of its risks to environment.
Those who agree with the operation of nuclear reactors usually argue that nuclear energy is the only feasible choice to answer the ever-increasing energy needs.
According to them, the other sources of energy: oil, coal, and liquid natural gas are not renewable and safe, while nuclear energy can be sustainably produced in a safe way.
However, people who disagree with the use of nuclear energy point out the waste of nuclear products completely destroy environment and human lives.
A meltdown in a reactor, for example, results in a contamination of soil and water. Take for an example, the blow up of the nuclear reactor at Chernobyl nuclear power station in Russia twenty years ago. A serious contamination imperiled people and environment severely.
It is obvious that nuclear energy should be avoided because it really endangers environment but what about the less polluted energy instead of nuclear energy? Is there any alternative energy to overcome the crisis of energy?

The term globalization is now the objective reality of this world. Within the revolutionary developments of Information Technology (IT), such as DVDs, PDAs, cell phones and other electronic devices, the world turn to be a “huge” village. We can get connected to anybody across the world with less money.
However, it is important to realize that the available facilities in our life are in fact a double-edged sword. On the one hand, if we make use of them wisely, we can take fully advantage of them. On the other hand, we can easily misuse them well.
One good example is the use of Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia for our learning. This encyclopedia is commonly written in a single DVD, which consists of a huge amount of information, can be a wonderful source of learning. Simply by typing the keyboard on “search”, we are provided with various readings, recordings and a series of pictures.

Smoking is a bad habit that is very hard to break. Smokers are everywhere. Many people smoke just to socialize, but many others are too addicted to quit.
A cigarette is like a toxin hypermarket. You can find many kinds of toxin in it: acetone, carbon monoxide, tar, arsenic, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, and toluene. The tar itself contains more than 43 substances that can cause cancer. Scientists say that when we are smoking, we put more than 4,000 kinds of toxic materials into our body.
However, many smokers believed that a cigarette with low tar is less dangerous. And so is a filtered cigarette. But the problem is one cigarette is never enough for addicted smokers.
Another myth about smoking is that it cannot only make them awake but also raise their inspiration. This is contrary to the findings of a research in California which show that smokers’ ability to think is lower than of non-smokers.
Smoking is indeed a serious social problem in our country. The government keeps reminding that smoking is dangerous, not only for smokers themselves, but also for other people in the surroundings (passive smokers). But the warnings do not seem to get any response.

Saya benar – benar masih bingung dengan tujuan teks antara hortatory exposition dan analytical exposition karena saya pernah belajar kalau tujuan dari teks Analytical Exposition itu adalah ‘to convince the readers to agree with the writer’s viewpoint by analyzing a certain issue within the text.’ Sedangkan tujuan dari teks Hortatory Exposition itu adalah ‘to persuade the readers to accept the writer’s point of view by showing the information in a logical way.’Saya juga pernah belajar kalau tujuan dari teks Analytical Exposition itu adalah ‘to persuade the reader or listener that something is the case.’ Sedangkan tujuan dari teks Hortatory Exposition itu adalah ‘to persuade the reader or listener that something should or should not be the case.’ Bagaimana perbedaannya ya, Pak/Bu karena sama – sama ada kata ‘to persuade’ sedangkan di teks bacaan – bacaan yang sudah saya pelajari itu kalau di Analytical Exposition paragraf terakhirnya berupa conclusion, tidak ada recommndationnya seperti teks “SMOKING” yang saya tanyakan diatas.
