MINTA JELASIN REPORT SAMA DESCRIPTION. AGAK BINGUNG/CONFUSED

Description VS Report

Dear student…..
A little bit confused mempelajari teks description and report??  Don’t worry, now you’ll read the difference between them.  Check it out.

Coba perhatikan contoh teks berikut:

Text 1

I have a pet. It is a dog and I call it Brownie. It is a Chinese breed. It is small, fluffy, and cute. It has got thick brown fur. When I cuddle it, the fur feels soft. Brownie doesn’t like bones. Everyday it eats soft food like steamed rice, fish or bread. (Bergenre DESCRIPTIVE karena menceritakan tentang seekor anjing yang bernama Brownie)
Text 2
A kangaroo is an animal found only n Australia, although is has a small relative, called a wallaby, which lives on the Australian island in Tasmania and also in New Guinea.(Bergenre REPORT karena menceritakan tentang Kangaroo secara umum)
Coba perhatikan lagi contoh berikut:
CAT belongs to mammal… (report)
MY CAT has thick fur…. (descriptive)

Perhatikan juga susunan berikut:
Genre : Descriptive
Social Function : To describe a particular person, place, or thing
Generic Structure :
1. Identification (identify phenomenon to be described)
2. Description (describe parts, qualities, characteristics)

Bandingkan dengan:

Genre : Report

Social Function : To describe the way things are (for example a man-made thing, animals, plants).

Text organization :

1. General Classification (Introduce the topic of the report such as: the class or the subclass)

2. Identification (tell the shape/form, parts, behaviour, habitat, way of survival)

Well, must be clear enough ya.  Kalau masih belum jelas, boleh nanya ko.

Tolong kasih tau definition/function and pattern adjective clause dong

Thank's

Adjective Clauses

Introduction

Here is a brief review of adjective clauses and relative pronouns.
An adjective clause is used to describe a noun:
The car, which was red, belonged to Young-Hee.

A relative pronoun is usually used to introduce an adjective clause:
Young-Hee, who is a Korean student, lives in Victoria.

The main relative pronouns are:

Who: used for humans in subject position::
Hans, who is an architect, lives in Berlin.

Whom: used for humans in object position::
Marike, whom Hans knows well, is an interior decorator.

Which: used for things and animals in subject or object position::
Marike has a dog which follows her everywhere.

That: used for humans, animals and things, in subject or object position (but see below)::
Marike is decorating a house that Hans designed.

There are two main kinds of adjective clause:

Non-defining clauses: give extra information about the noun, but they are not essential:
The desk in the corner, which is covered in books, is mine.
(We don't need this information in order to understand the sentence. "The desk in the corner is mine" is a good sentence on its own -- we still know which desk is referred to. Note that non-defining clauses are usually separated by commas, and that is not usually used in this kind of context.)

Defining clauses: give essential information about the noun:
The package that arrived this morning is on the desk.

(We need this information in order to understand the sentence. Without the relative clause, we don't know which package is being referred to. Note that that is often used in defining relative clauses, and they are not separated by commas.)

1. Adjective Clauses

Adjective clauses are also called relative clauses. They come after nouns and modify them. In other words, they tell the listener or reader more about the person or thing that the noun refer to. The pronouns that often begin adjective clauses are called relative pronouns ( that, which, who, whom, whose, where) For example:
A person who sweeps the floor on buildings is known as janitor.
A person who sails is a sailor.
The man who sold the red house is a friend of mine.

2. Reducing Adjective Clauses to Adjective Phrases

If the subject relative pronoun is followed by the verb be in any tense, both the relative pronoun and the verb be can be omitted. For example:
The realtor who is selling the house is Ann.--> The realtor who is selling the house is Ann.
The garment that is worn by priests is usually white.-> The garment that is worn by priests is usually white.

3. Relative pronouns as objects

The object relative pronouns for people are who, whom, that. Whom is more formal than who. The object relative pronouns for things are which, that. For example:
The candidate who more votes gets become the president.
The first time that I voted was in 1982.
You may omit the relative pronoun in restricted adjective clauses. For example:
The first time I voted was in 1982.

4. Restricted/Nonrestricted Relative Clauses

The two main types of adjective clauses--restrictive and nonrestrictive-- have distinct meanings and uses.
A restrictive adjective clause gives information that helps to uniquely identify the noun that it describes. For example:
My sister who attends KU is very shy. (I have two sisters. one attends KU , the other doesn't)

A Nonrestrictive adjective clause, on the other hand, adds extra information about the noun it modifies. This information is not necessary to identify the noun. For example:
Mary, who attends KU, is very shy.

Summary

The manwho calledis an old friend of mine.
The womanwhom I metlives near my house
The letterthat Mary receivedwas very important.

 Narrative textny :

The TinderBox

One day, there was a poor soldier. He came home from the wars, so he brought his knapsack and his sword on his back. On the road, an old Witch met him.

"Good evening, soldier! Wow….You have a nice sword, and large knapsack!" said the old Witch.

“Thank you but, what do you want, old Witch?” asked the Soldier.

“Hmm. I think a strong soldier is like you can bring lots of money. Do you see that great tree there?” said the Witch, and pointed to a tree beside them. Then she told him about that tree.

“It is hollow within. You must climb up to the top, and then you can let yourself down into the tree. I will tie a rope round your waist, so that I may be able to pull you up again when you call.”  Said the Witch.

“What shall I do down there? And why you didn’t do it by yourself?” asked the soldier.

“Get money! Because I’m so old, weak, and certainly it is guarded. But if you follow my order you will save. I just want one thing, namely the tinderbox.” Said the Witch.

And the soldier agreed the witch’s treaty and down into the tree. In the tree there were three rooms, with a chest and a dog that was protected. Each room he went into the dogs were bigger and their eyes were bigger than the one before. In first room, the soldier found a chest of metal fragment and an orange dog with name Tiny. In second room, the soldier found a chest of silver and a blue dog with name Silver. And the last room, he found a chest of money and a large dog with name Goldie. But he still didn’t found the tinderbox, when he went to out he found a skull with bringing old tinderbox.

But, when he reached outside, he was attacked by the witch. But the soldier can was released it and attacked back the witch so she was dead. And now he was rich but he was unhappy. In the next day, he heard of a poor princess who was unhappy in the castle. He used the magic tinderbox to saw the princess every day, with three dogs.

And the princess told her parents about the soldier and they caught the soldier. When they went to chop off his head he used the tinderbox to calling the dogs. The dogs chased the king and queen away. And then, the soldier married the princess and lived in a castle with her and the three dogs.
