Do you know how blueberries grow? They grow on bushes. Each blueberry is small and round. Many blueberries can grow on one bush. At first, the blueberries are green. The green berries are not ready to eat yet. They need a lot of sun and rain to help them become fat and sweet. When the berries turn blue, they are ripe and ready to be picked.
Some farmers grow blueberries in big fields. The people who live nearby can earn money by helping to pick the blueberries. Each one takes a pail out to the field and fills it with blueberries. They work fast so that they can fill many pails. They want to earn as much money as they can. When they are done picking, their fingers are blue from the juice of the berries!
After the blueberries are picked, they are put into boxes and sent to stores. People buy the blueberries and take them home to eat. Some people like to wash the berries and eat them one by one. Other people like to cook with blueberries. They make blueberry muffins and pancakes.
No matter how you eat them, blueberries taste great!

Do you still remember the climate change conference in Bali? Do you know what is meant by the climate changing?
Global warming is the changing of climate. Temperatures vary from day to day and year to year. Global warming is very dangerous. Why is it so?
Global warming melts the ice at the poles. This would then cover all the flat coastal lands. People would have less land on which to live or grow food.
Plants and animals are adapted to their climates. If the climate changes rapidly, many may not be able to adapt. Some species will simply die out. Others may spread to cooler climates. They will be struggling with species already in place.
So what can we do to save the planet? People should stop cutting down forest and burning the wood. There must be a clear regulation of the use of cars and other machines to decrease the amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. Otherwise the earth and all the entirely life will vanish.
Pertanyaan2nya adalah:
1. The last paragraph tells us about ………
a. an advice how to cut down forest and burn the wood
b. a suggestion to overcome the climate changing
c. a warning about a clear regulation of transportation
d. a clear regulation of the use of cars and other machines
e. the amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere
Jawaban yg benar itu yg A / B ya, Pak/Bu?In olden times, many people who worked as brick makers were slaves or servants. If the master brick maker needed extra help, he could always bail someone out of jail and force them to work without any wages. They received one meal a day, and it was usually corn meal and bread.
Many events would happen during this brick making “business”. Now let me tell you the process. The first step of brick making process is to gather clay and mix it up by stepping in it. This is rather a very disgusting view.
Once the clay is clean enough, it is formed into bricks. The brick maker will roll it and then put it in a mold. The mold gives the brick its shape. Sometimes in the middle of the brick making process, the bricks are taken to the area where the bricks will be dried in the sun until they are hard enough to handle.
Afterward the bricks are piled up in the brickyard. The brickyard is the place where bricks are placed for the last time until it is time for them to go into the kiln.
The kiln is the final destination for the bricks. This is when and where the bricks will get baked.
Brick making is an important industry in many parts of the world. It is an activity that can take place in many forms, in large modern factories to small rural businesses. Although the process is simple, many techniques involved in the brick making process are subject to error, possibly reducing the quality of bricks.

The farmer worked so hard that at last he became very ill. As he lay on his bed, he thought of himself, “Soon I’ll die and what will become of my lazy sons? If they don’t work, they’ll become so poor that they’ll not have even rice to eat.”

Smoking is a bad habit that is very hard to break. Smokers are everywhere. Many people smoke just to socialize, but many others are too addicted to quit.
A cigarette is like a toxin hypermarket. You can find many kinds of toxin in it: acetone, carbon monoxide, tar, arsenic, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, and toluene. The tar itself contains more than 43 substances that can cause cancer. Scientists say that when we are smoking, we put more than 4,000 kinds of toxic materials into our body.
However, many smokers believed that a cigarette with low tar is less dangerous. And so is a filtered cigarette. But the problem is one cigarette is never enough for addicted smokers.
Another myth about smoking is that it cannot only make them awake but also raise their inspiration. This is contrary to the findings of a research in California which show that smokers’ ability to think is lower than of non-smokers.
Smoking is indeed a serious social problem in our country. The government keeps reminding that smoking is dangerous, not only for smokers themselves, but also for other people in the surroundings (passive smokers). But the warnings do not seem to get any response.

Ant-eaters are perhaps the most curious looking animals.
Their long head and snout look like tubes, and they have no teeth at all. Their front legs are very strong and armed with heavy curved claws with which they break open the nets of ants and termites and then, when the insects rush out, use their long, sticky tongues to lick them up at great speed.
True ant-eaters are found in the swamps and forests of Central and South America. Scaly ant-eaters, or pangolins, are found in Africa and tropical Asia.
Various other insect-eating animals are sometimes called ant-eaters, although they really belong to other groups of animals. One of them is the ant-bear, which lives on the plains of South and Central Africa. This has long, erect ears but short blunt claws, an almost hairless tail, yellow brown in color. Unlike the true ant-eaters, it has small teeth.
Pertanyaannya adalah:
1. Unlike the true ant-eaters, it has small teeth. (last paragraph)
It means ………
a. the true ant-eaters have no teeth
b. the true ant-eaters have small teeth
c. the ant-bear has no teeth
d. the ant-bear has big teeth
e. both have no teeth.
Jawaban yg benar yg A ya, Pak/Bu?Rainforest are one of the most complicated environments on Earth. They are recognized worldwide as containing the richest source of plants and animals and are believed to contain nearly three quarters of all the varieties of life on Earth. This is remarkable because rainforests cover only about six percent of the Earth’s land surface.
Rainforest are the oldest major ecosystem, having survived climate changes for more than one million years. They provide habitats for more species of plants, animals, insects and birds than any other environment found on our planet. Scientists estimate that between 60 and 90 percent of all species of life are to be found on our planet. Scientists estimate that between 60 and 90 percent of all species of life are to be found in rainforests. Unfortunately, the widespread destruction of many of the world’s rainforests has caused a significant decline in the number of plant and animal species on Earth.
Rainforests influence both our local and global climates. For example, between 50 and 80 percent of the moisture in the air above rainforests comes from the rainforest’s trees. If large areas of these lush rainforests are cleared, the average rainfall in the area will drop. Eventually, the area’s climate will get hotter and drier. This process could convert a rainforests into a sparse grassland or desert.
Rainforests are major producers of the Earth’s oxygen. In fact, scientists believe that nearly 50 percent of the Earth’s oxygen is produced by rainforest in the Amazon region alone. Nearly 40 percent of the world’s carbon is contained in the trees of the rainforests. As rainforests are cut down and burned, carbon dioxide is released into the Earth’s atmosphere. Eventually, as this gas builds up the atmosphere, leading to what scientists call the enhanced greenhouse effect.
In conclusion, rainforests are essential to our life on Earth.

I’m surprised that Soekarno – Hatta airport was awarded the “No. 4 clean toilet” position, while we all know that this airport has one of the dirtiest and smelliest toilet facilities.
At Soekarno – Hatta, an airport which stays busy 24 hours a day, toilet attendees are gone by 10 p.m. and the toilets are an utter disgrace.
I propose that toilet operators should teach and train employees how to do the job properly as these facilities should be cleaned and disinfected at regular intervals.
People should also be educated not to squat on toilet pots. Signs should be put up on places which they can read to solve this problem. The toilet users should pay some money as long as the toilets are exceptionally clean and non-smelly.
Pertanyaan2nya adalah:
1. Which of the followings becomes the suitable title for the text above?
a. The Soekarno – Hatta airport is the “No. 4 clean toilet”
b. The Soekarno – Hatta airport stays busy 24 hours a day.
c. The Soekarno – Hatta airport was awarded the “No. 4 clean toilet”
