Pak/Bu, terima kasih atas jawaban2nya. Namun dr jawaban2 Bpk/Ibu, masih ada beberapa yg buat saya bingung sbb:

LANDSLIDES and AVALANCHES

Landslide is the sliding down of a mass of earth, rock, etc.   from the side of a cliff or hillside. Avalanche is a great mass of    snow and ice at a high altitude sliding down a mountain side,      often carrying with its thousand of tons of rocks, and sometimes   destroying forests, houses, etc. in its path.

Landslides and Avalanches happen when large amount        of         rock, mud and other loose materials are suddenly uprooted and sent sliding down a slope. This might be caused by an earthquake,         or it might happen after heavy rain, or when soil becomes water-           logged after a fall of snow. As the material loses its grip and       begins to move down the slope it gathers speed and sweeps up    more material with devastating results.

Nepal suffers from frequent landslides because the   hillsides have been stripped of trees. When it rains the water, soaks         into the soil and THIS slides down the mountain-side. Much of       the damage after the explosion on Mount St. Helena in the USA        was caused by falling rock mixed with ice and snow, which        thundered down the side of the mountain in the biggest avalanche          ever recorded. The debris traveled at 400 km/h (250 mph). In 1955      the town of Nicolet in Canada was badly damaged when a large      section of the terrace the town stands on slid into the Nicolet River       leaving a crater 185 meters (600 feet) across.

Terima kasih.

Which of the following statements is NOT TRUE according to               the text?

            a.   Nicolet was completely damaged by the explosion of Mount St. Helena.

            b.   A crater of 185 meters was formed when a terrace slid into                                                 the Nicolet River.

            c.   Landslide and avalanche are one of the dangerous natural    disasters in the world.

            d.   The debris of landslides and avalanche travels at a great                               speed.

            e.   Nepal suffers much from frequent landslides because of the                          forest trees have been severely cut off.

Mana jawaban yg benar, Pak/Bu? Saya bingung sekali.

Pertama Bpk/Ibu memberikan jawaban yg benar itu yg E. Kemudian Bpk/Ibu meralatnya menjadi A. Yg ingin saya tanyakan kata2 dari pilihan yg A itu yg salah / yg tidak sesuai dng bacaan yg mana ya, Pak/Bu? Mohon penjelasannya. Terima kasih.

Polythene bags, a plastic product, …………… in almost all ways         of life nowadays.

    a.     have to be used

    b.     were used

    c.     are now being used

    d.     have been used

    e.     are going to be used

Terima kasih.

Terima kasih sebelumnya.

READING

Have you ever seen a shooting star? A bright light    streaks across the sky. It looks like a star falling to Earth. It’s             actually a meteor.

A shooting star is a piece of rock or metal. There are           billions of chunks of rock and metal scattered throughout the solar      system. Most are as small as grains of sand, but the largest are   many miles across. A piece of rock and metal floating through          space is called an asteroid.

Sometimes asteroids come close to Earth. They fall             through Earth’s atmosphere, the air around the planet. Earth’s atmosphere “rubs” against the rock. The rubbing makes the rock           so hot that it glows. The glowing rock is called a meteor.

Most meteors burn up before they hit the ground. All that’s left of them is specks of dust. Others are so big that they make it      through the atmosphere and crash into Earth. A meteor that hits             the ground is called a meteorite.

Meteorites can make big holes in the ground called craters. There are not many meteorite craters on Earth. Other planets, such       as Mercury and Mars, have many more craters. Those planets   don’t have thick atmospheres, so most meteors that fall toward    them make it all the way to the ground. There are also lots of     meteorite craters on our Moon and on the moons of other planets.

 1.      The following statements are FALSE based on the text, except ……………      a.   Asteroids makes the atmosphere hot and glows.      b.   Atmosphere protects us from the hit of meteors.      c.   A shooting star is actually an asteroid hitting the crater.      d.   A meteorite is a rock or metal floating through space.      Apakah jawaban yg benar itu yg A, Pak/Bu? 2.      The following statements are TRUE based on the text, except ……………      a.   A meteor that hits the ground is called a meteorite.      b.   The Moon has lots of craters because it has thin atmosphere.      c.   A piece of rock and metal floating through space is called an asteroid.      d.   Big holes in the ground caused by the hit of meteors are called                      craters.

Mana jawaban yg benar, Pak/Bu? Saya bingung sekali krn     menurut saya pilihan jawaban itu benar semua. Mohon            penjelasannya.

HOW TO STOP THE GLOBAL WARMING

      Let’s keep it simple.

First, everything I tell you is going to be realistic and          genuinely        useful. So I won’t tell you to give up your car – though     I may offer you some suggestions for how you can reduce ITS impact on         the environment. I may make some product or service       recommendations along the way, but all of them will provide a               benefit to the environment and be the best, most useful things you can do.

Second, this isn’t a new issue – remember when The           Greenhouse Effect was so big in the news? Now the buzzwords are the climate change, carbon trading, carbon footprint and            carbon neutral – more about that later though.

Then, let me just say this, I’m no hardcore   environmentalist. In fact, until recently I didn’t do much more than       separate the recycling from the rest of my rubbish! I’m now             determined to do whatever I can to AT LEAST reduce my personal impact on the environment.

      Pertanyaan2 saya adalah:

      1.   Which statement is NOT TRUE according to the text?

            a.   Stop polluting air with your car.

            b.   Stop establishing green house for research.

            c.   Stop throwing your rubbish away to your environment.

            d.   Keep your environment clean from rubbish.

Jawaban yg benar: A atau D ya, Pak/Bu?

      2.   ITS impact on the environment……………” (par. 1)

The underlined word refers to ………

            a.   vehicle

            b.   smoke of vehicle

            c.   air pollution

            d.   quality of air

LANDSLIDES and AVALANCHES

Landslide is the sliding down of a mass of earth, rock, etc.   from the side of a cliff or hillside. Avalanche is a great mass of    snow and ice at a high altitude sliding down a mountain side,      often carrying with its thousand of tons of rocks, and sometimes   destroying forests, houses, etc. in its path.

Nepal suffers from frequent landslides because the hillsides have been stripped of trees

Yg ingin saya tanyakan dimana letak salahnya dari pilihan E tersebut ya, Pak/Bu? Apa artinya itu berbeda? Terima kasih

Maaf jawaban yang benar adalah A karena Nicolet damage bukan disebabkan oleh the explosion of Mount St. Helena.Trimakasih

Petroleum products, such as gasoline, koresene, home heating oil, residual fuel oil and lubricating oils, come from one source. crude oil is found below the earth surface, as well as under large bodies of water, from a few hundred feet below the surface to as deep as 25.000 fett into the earth interior. crude oil is obtained by drilling a hole through the earth, but sometimes more dry holes are drilled than those producing oil. pressure at the source, or pumping, forces the crude oil to the surface.
Crude oil wells flow at varying rates, from ren to rhousands of barrel per hour. petroleoum products vary greatly in physical appearance: thin, thick, transparant, or opaque.  their chemisal compositions are made up of onlu two elements: carbon and hdrogen, which from compounds called hydrocarbons. other chemical elements found in the union with hydrocarbons are few and are classified as impurities. trace element are also found, but theses are of such minute quantitis that they are disregarded.
