In Hong Kong, the students are not always able to answer questions about their country. Although Hong Kong is their country, they have had little opportunity to go on excursions. Most of them cannot afford the time or money needed for such trips. Since, they do not know much about Hong Kong’s history and its culture, they have always had to write to the Hong Kong Tourist Association for information.
To give such students sound knowledge about Hong Kong, The Tourist Association decided to start the student ambassador programme. The programme has been carried out for eight years. Young men and women who are going overseas for further studies are selected to undergo a special course dealing with the history, culture and lifestyle of Hong Kong.
Through visits factories, government departments and other places of interest, the young people receive ample information which will enable them to answer a wide range of questions asked by persons abroad.
The market is called a floating market because the trade takes place on boats – in Indonesia, they are called klotok and jukung. This market has existed for over 400 years. In the past, people from inland areas brought their agricultural produce or handicrafts to sell. They bartered with people from the coastal areas. Nowadays, people can buy things such as fruit, vegetables, traditional cakes and even clothes from this ‘pasar terapung’. Another unique feature of these markets is the time of trading. It begins around 5 a.m. and finishes at 9a.m.
Bus Way
Governor Sutiyoso has launched his mass rapid transportation plan. This includes monorail, subway, water transportation, and Busway. Among the public transportation plan, Busway has been put into effect. The air conditioned bus fleet with their special roads have been operated since last year. Now, more routes are being constructed to cover the five mayoralties. In fact, the existence of Busway makes pros and cons.
Some people consider Busway can solve a traffic problem faced by the metropolitan city. Everyday millions of people commute from their houses to their respective work places. This badly needs adequate public transportation. If fifty persons go to their offices by cars, they need fifty cars roaming on the street. This number of cars can be replaced by only one Busway. Consequently, with reduced vehicles the streets are less congested. Therefore, it can decline traffic jams. Apart from reducing traffic jams, Busway easies Jakarta inhabitants to go to their workplace or other destination. For this reason more access on Busway is being accomplished. Other Busway roads have been constructed, such as, Kota-Kalideres and Kota-Pulogadung. This definitely make easier for people who go for recreation to the zoo.
Besides reducing traffic jam and comforting passengers, Busway can minimize air pollution. As stated, Busway can replace other vehicles in a great number. It apparently declines the danger of pollution. Less vehicles means less carbon monoxide coming out from the exhausted fumes. As a result, the residents of Jakarta are less threatened with sickness caused by air pollution. And if Busway administration can manage the public transport well, Busway can create a new icon of Jakarta.
Those who resist the exsistence of Busway argue that instead of solving problem, Busway create a new problem. Busway even makes traffic worse. The Busway line makes the roads narrower. Narrow roads cause passing vehicles to get stuck especially during rush hours. Furthermore, Busway adds up corruption that has become a vicious circle in this country. As reported in a newspaper the purchase of Busway fleet is under corruption suspect. Billions of rupiah are believed to have been put into the city administrator’s pocket. In terms of the expense, Busway fare is also much expensive than an ordinary bus. It costs Rp 3.500,. for one ride, while the common bus only costs Rp 2.000,. With the difference in bus fare, it is likely that passengers prefer to ride ordinary buses.
Apparently, Busway still creates different outlooks among the residents of Jakarta. In spite of all the critics, the governor of Jakarta firmly continues to extend its routes.
mohon penjelasan tentang pengertian adjective phrase.trim
Sometimes a group of words does the work of an adjective.
Study the following examples.
In sentence 1, the adjective wealthy says what sort of man the mayor was. In sentence 2, the group of words ‘of great wealth’ also says the same thing. It qualifies the noun man as an adjective does. It therefore does the work of an adjective and is called an adjective phrase.

tolong penjelasannya tentang beda hortatory dengan analytical exposition. makasih
Bingung cara membedakan teks analytical exposition dan hortatory exposition? Don’t worry it’s so easy. Study the followings ya…
So the thesis is “Smoking is not good for your health”. Kemudian kita akan memberikan alasan-alasan mengapa merokok itu tidak baik, so we tell the arguments that support our thesis. The social function of exposition is to persuade the reader or listener.
So the difference is…..
Study the text organization of analytical exposition below.
Ada 3 tahapan dalam teks analytical, yaitu:
Perbedaan Analytical Exposition dan Hortatory Exposition terletak di paragraf terakhir. Dalam penulisan Hortatory juga ada 3 bagian, yaitu:
For example:
Text 1
Smoking in restaurants
Smoking in restaurants is just not on. It must not be allowed because it is rude, harmful to others and dangerous for the smokers.
Firstly, smoking in a restaurant is impolite. The smell of the smoke affects all people and can turn them off their food. People pay to taste good food and not to be put off by foul smelling smoke.
Another reason smoking should not be allowed in restaurant is the harm it can do to others. Passive smoking that is breathing in smoke made by a smoker can lead to asthma attacks and even cancer.
Finally, smoking is dangerous and a health risk to the smokers. Cigarettes cause heart and lung disease and people should not smoke anywhere, not just in restaurants.
Therefore, smoking in restaurants is impolite, harmful to others and a health risk to the smokers and should not be allowed in any restaurants.
Text 2
Is it important to know what your kids are watching? Of course yes. Television can expose things you have tried to protect them from, especially violence, pornography, consumerism, etc.
A study demonstrated that spending too much time on watching TV during the day or bedtime often causes bedtime disruption, stress, and short of sleep duration.
Another research found that there is a significant relationship between the amount of time spent for watching television during adolescence and early adulthood, and the possibility of being aggressive.
Meanwhile, many studies have identified a relationship between kids who watch TV a lot and being inactive and overweight.
Considering some facts mentioned above, protect your children with the following tips:
1. Limit television viewing to 1 – 2 hours each day
2. Do not allow your children to have a TV set in their bedrooms
3. Review the rating of TV shows that your children watch
4. Watch television with your children and discuss what is happening the show
Kedua teks di atas hampir sama, perbedaannya hanya ada di paragraf terakhir. Coba perhatikan paragraf terakhir pada teks 1 yang hanya berisi simpulan tidak ada saran. Memang ada kata “shouldn’t be allowed in the restaurants”, namun itu bukan saran melainkan penguatan dari thesis. Perhatikan lagi thesisnya “It must be allowed because…” Bandingkan dengan paragraf terakhir pada teks kedua yang berisi saran melalui empat tips yang harus dilakukan to protect the children. Clear right?

One day a monkey wanted to cross a river. He saw a crocodile in the river, so he asked the crocodile to take him across the other side. The crocodile told the monkey to jump on its back. Then the crocodile swam down the river.
Now, the crocodile was very hungry, so when it was in the middle of the river, it stopped and said to the monkey, ”Monkey, my father is very sick. He must eat the heart of the monkey. Then he will be strong again.”
The monkey thought for a while. Then he told the crocodile to swim back to the river bank.
“What’s for?” asked the crocodile.
“Because I didn’t bring my heart with me,” said the monkey. “I left it under the tree, near some coconuts.”
So, the crocodile turned around and swam back to the bank of the river. As soon as they reached the river bank, the monkey jumped off the crocodile’s back and climbed up to the top of a tree.
“Where is your heart?” asked the crocodile.
“You are foolish,” the monkey said to the crocodile. “Now I am free and you have nothing.”
The monkey told the crocodile not to try to fool him again. The crocodile swam away, hungry.

My Favourite Teacher
Everyone has a favourite teacher, someone who we feel a special connection with. In primary school, my favourite teacher was Ms. Nuraini. I was not such a good pupil, but just looking at Ms. Nuraini made me feel that I was going to learn.
Ms. Nuraini was 45 years old and rather short about 1.50 meters. Since I’m short too, I always feel a bit nervous with tall teacher who tower menacingly over me. It was reassuring to be around Ms. Nuraini. Also, I always enjoy the fragrance of the herbs that she grew in our classroom.
On the top of her round head, Ms. Nuraini always wore a colorful headscarf with an intriguing design. This, plus her warm smile, brightened the lessons in her classroom. However, the best part of her face was her kind eyes that said to her students, ”I care deeply about you.”
Ms. Nuraini usually wore bright long sleeve blouse that went well with her coffee-color skin. She did not wear much jewelry, just a simple Casio watch on her left hand and a ruby red ring on the ring finger of her right hand. The other ‘decoration’ on her hand came from types of ink from whiteboard markers and other sources.
On most days, Ms. Nuraini wore loose-fitting pants. Finally, on her feet, she often had brown closed-toe shoes with just a slightly raised heel that made a peculiar ‘clip-clop’ sound as she walked. These low-heeled shoes made it easy for Ms. Nuraini to walk briskly around the classroom to help us when we were doing group activities.
I can still feel her friendly touch on my shoulder as she stood listening carefully to our group or explaining something that none of us could figure out.
