Descriptive text:

Negeri Sembilan is a unique among Malaysian states for its Adat Pepatih, a matrilineal social system which came together with the Minangkabau people from the Indonesian island of Sumatra who settled in the state.
The cultural heart of Minangkabau culture in Negeri Sembilan is the pretty royal town of Seri Menanti, about 50 km from the state capital, Seremban. Here, you will find a traditional timber palace. It was the residence of Negeri Sembilan’s ruler until 1992 when it was turned into the Royal Museum. It is a showcase of Minangkabau architecture and design, and it was built by two local crafts men in 1908. No screws or nails were used in its construction. Many houses in the vicinity of Seri Menanti adopt the distict feature of Minangkabau architecture-the curved roof which resembles the horns of the buffalo.
For more of the state’s history, you can head to the State Museum in Seremban which is also housed in a former palace, the Istana Ampang Tinggi. The Adat Museum in Rembau, 25km south of Seremban, contains a fascinating array of cultural artefacts from handcrafted antiques to community heirlooms. Further to the south is the Pangkalan Kempas Historical Complex. Its most fascinating feature is a group of stone megaliths which are referred to as batu hidup (living rocks). Villagers believe the rocks can grow and move on their own.

Narrative text:

Once, a cap seller was passing through a jungle. He was dead tired and needed to rest. Then, he stopped and spread a cloth under a tree. He placed his bag full of caps bear him and lay down with his cap on his head.
The cap seller had a sound sleep for one hour. When he got up, the first thing he did was to look into his bag. He was startled when he found all his caps were not there. He was wondering where they could have gone. Indeed, he was greatly puzzled.
When he looked up the sky, he was very surprised to see monkeys sitting on the branches of a tree, each wearing a cap on his head. They had evidently done it to imitate him.
He decided to get his caps back by making a humble request to the monkeys. In return, the monkeys only made faces of him. When he began to make gestures, even when he raised his fist towards them to threaten them, they also imitated him.
At last he hit upon a clever idea. “Monkeys are a great imitator,” he thought. So he took off his own cap and threw it down on the ground. As he had expected, all the monkeys took off the caps and threw it down on the ground. Quickly he stood up and collected the caps, put them back into his bag and went away.

Analytical exposition:

HOUSE HUSBAND’S HEART RISK

Most people assume that life in the rat race is bad for your health. But reversing the traditional gender roles, being a house husband is a stressful business, according to the latest research by American scientist. By giving up their jobs in order to become house husbands, men increase their risk of heart attack or coronary disease by as much as 82%, according to research based on 10 year study of 2,500 people in Boston, USA.
Accoding to Dr. Elaine Eaker, the key to the problem is that some men became stressed about performing a role not traditionally assigm to them by society. Men who stays at home tend not to have the same levels of support from friends and family as women do the same.
Jack O’Sullivan, of the Father’s Direct, was quoted as saying: “Society expects the main career should be a woman and society is structured around that. Day care is called mother and toddler groups and some men feel awkward about belonging to those groups.
Professor Gary Cooper, a psychologist at the University of Manchester, said many men tend to underestimate the task of caring for a family. He said “Most men think being a house husband involves putting on a bit of washing, taking the kids to school and then putting their feet up with a cup of coffee.
They are crazy. Most men are not used to performing a variety of activities simultanously – the kind of multi-tasking which is second nature to most women.
It is estimated that men have taken over the main homemaker’s role in one in seven homes, as increasing numbers of women become the main breadwinner. The study also found that women in high-powered jobs were more likely to develop heart disease than those in more junior positions.

Pertanyaan :

Do you know what the meaning of corruption is ? What is the relation between monye and corruption ? well, corruption is common everywhere in the world, even in the United States. It's just a matter of intensity, However, it is quite shocking when one reliable survey clais Jakarta as the most corrupt place in Indonesia.

The survery has made me sad, actually, because I stay and earn a living here in the capital. As most people know, Tanjung Priok port smuggling is not a new thing at all. Entrepreneurs who want to minimized their tax payments tend to do such a thing more often. They even bribe the officials.

Well, I think the measures taken so far to overcome the problem by punishing the corruptors is still not far enough. We have to prevent the younger generations from getting a bad mentality caused by corruption.

I believe we should start at the earliest stages in school and I think everyone should be involved in the effort to eradicate corruption. We must not make any distinction.

What is the most suitable title for the text?

a. Jakarta is the most corrupt place

b. Smuggling in Tanjung Priok

c. Corruption everywhere

d. Corruption is United States

e. Corruption is Common

Saya ingin minta bantuan uk menemukan abstract word pada text dibawah ini :

A tsunami is a very large sea wave that is generated by a disturbance along the ocean floor. This disturbance can be an eartquake, a landslide, or a volcanic eruption. A tsunami is undetectable far out in the ocean, but once it reaches shallow water, this fast-travelling wave grows very large

Tsunami occur when a major fault under the ocean floor suddenly slips. The displaced rock pushes water above it like a giant paddle, producing powerful water waves at the ocean surface. The ocean waves spread out from the vicinity of the earthquake source and move across the ocean until they reach the coastline, where their height increases as they reach the continental shelf. the part of the earth's crust that slopes, or rises, from the ocean floor up t the land.

Tsunami wash ashore with often disastrous effect suchs as severe flooding, loss of lives due to drowning and damage to property

Mohon bantuannya. Karna besok tggl 15, pertanyaan ini akan ditanyakan pada saat diskusi. Trims sebelumnya

Examples of abstract terms include love, success, freedom, good, moral, democracy, and any -ism (chauvinism, Communism, feminism, racism, sexism). These terms are fairly common and familiar, and because we recognize them we may imagine that we understand them—but we really can't, because the meanings won't stay still.

Abstract words refer to concepts or ideas-things you cannot see, hear, taste, touch, or smell. Examples include; love, success, freedom, good, moral, democracy, ..

The monkey thought for a while. Then he told the crocodile to swim back to the river bank.
“What’s for?” asked the crocodile.
“Because I didn’t bring my heart with me,” said the monkey. “I left it under the tree, near some coconuts.”
So, the crocodile turned around and swam back to the bank of the river. As soon as they reached the river bank, the monkey jumped off the crocodile’s back and climbed up to the top of a tree.
“Where is your heart?” asked the crocodile.
“You are foolish,” the monkey said to the crocodile. “Now I am free and you have nothing.”
The monkey told the crocodile not to try to fool him again. The crocodile swam away, hungry.

Pertanyaan :

In 1982 Lindy Chamberlain was convicted of murdering her baby Azaria while camping at Ayer's Rock. In my  opinion, Lindy should have convicted of Azaria's murder as there is too much conflicting evidence.

Firstly, there is the question of the blood found in the car. It was claimed that it was the baby's blood. However, the tests used to identify the blood were later found to be unreliable and the blood could have come from an adult.

Another piece of conflicting evidence concerns the dingo. Lindy claimed that Azaria was taken by stray dingo. Some of the other campers said that they saw no dingo. but there were several who confirmed Lindy's story, and who stated that they heard a dingo's cry just before Azaria went missing.

And finally, there is the matter of the baby's jumpsuit which was later found with holes in it. The prosecution maintaned that these holes could only have been made by a pair of nail scissors - the ones they claimed LIndy used to kill her baby. The defense on the other hand demonstrated that the holes could just as easily have been made by a dingo's teeth.

In the light of such conflicting evidence, I believe that it was wrong to convict Lindy Chamberlain without finding more definite proof of her guilt.

Yg ingin saya tanyakan:

1. What is the text about ?

a. Azaria's murder

b. Evidence of Azaria's murder

c. Accusation on Azaria's murder

d. A daughter killed by her mother

e. Lindy Chamberlain's murder

Yg betul A / B ya, bu ? Mohon penjelasannya.

2. The main idea of the second paragraph is about ....

a. Proving the baby's blood

b. Arguing the baby's murder

c. Doubting the baby's murder

d. Finding the baby's blod in the car

e. Finding the adult's blood in the car

Second paragraph nya itu yg Firstly, .... atau yg Another piece... ya, bu ?

Yg betul A / B / C ? Mohon penjelasannya.

3. Bacaan diatas termasuk news item atau report atau analytical exposition, bu ?

4. Menurut ibu, sebenarnya yg jadi the murderer itu siapa ?

Pertanyaan : Bus way

Governor Sutiyoso has launched his mass rapid transportation plan. This includes monorail, subway, water transportation, and Busway. Among the public transportation plan, Busway has been put into effect. The air conditioned bus fleet with their special roads have been operated since last year. Now, more routes are being constructed to cover the five mayoralties. In fact, the existence of Busway makes pros and cons.
Some people consider Busway can solve a traffic problem faced by the metropolitan city. Everyday millions of people commute from their houses to their respective work places. This badly needs adequate public transportation. If fifty persons go to their offices by cars, they need fifty cars roaming on the street. This number of cars can be replaced by only one Busway. Consequently, with reduced vehicles the streets are less congested. Therefore, it can decline traffic jams. Apart from reducing traffic jams, Busway easies Jakarta inhabitants to go to their workplace or other destination. For this reason more access on Busway is being accomplished. Other Busway roads have been constructed, such as, Kota-Kalideres and Kota-Pulogadung. This definitely make easier for people who go for recreation to the zoo.
Besides reducing traffic jam and comforting passengers, Busway can minimize air pollution. As stated, Busway can replace other vehicles in a great number. It apparently declines the danger of pollution. Less vehicles means less carbon monoxide coming out from the exhausted fumes. As a result, the residents of Jakarta are less threatened with sickness caused by air pollution. And if Busway administration can manage the public transport well, Busway can create a new icon of Jakarta.
Those who resist the exsistence of Busway argue that instead of solving problem, Busway create a new problem. Busway even makes traffic worse. The Busway line makes the roads narrower. Narrow roads cause passing vehicles to get stuck especially during rush hours. Furthermore, Busway adds up corruption that has become a vicious circle in this country. As reported in a newspaper the purchase of Busway fleet is under corruption suspect. Billions of rupiah are believed to have been put into the city administrator's pocket. In terms of the expense, Busway fare is also much expensive than an ordinary bus. It costs Rp 3.500,. for one ride, while the common bus only costs Rp 2.000,. With the difference in bus fare, it is likely that passengers prefer to ride ordinary buses.
Apparently, Busway still creates different outlooks among the residents of Jakarta. In spite of all the critics, the governor of Jakarta firmly continues to extend its routes.

Death penalty

Death penalty for serious criminals has been discussed by our experts. Those who agree say that death penalty will scare the criminals off. However, those who disagree say that it is inhuman not effective and we can not correct the wrong sentence after the criminals die.
In Switzerland, this penalty does not exist. Most people argue that the possibility of making the wrong decision is always there although it is true that spending life behind the bars is not easy either. Also every person should have a chance for rehabilitation. In this way he or she can start all over again in another life style.
Those argue that there is no use to feed the terrorists in prison with their money. When they get out, they will create a lot of troubles by blackmailing and killing people. So, who says that jails will stop them from being guys?
My own opinion is divided. On the one hand, I want to be humane, and on the other hand, I wonder if those people are worthy of feeling.

E. Every person should have a chance for rehabilitation

3. What is the writer opinion about death penalty?
A. He is not able to decide
B. He is against death penalty
C. He agrees with death penalty
D. Death penalty is worthwhile punishment
E. The criminals deserve to receive the benefit of humane feeling

4. "However those who disagree say that it is inhuman, not effective and we can not correct the wrong sentence after the criminals die". (paragraph 1)
The underlined word can be replaced by ....
A. fine
